MED’s Rehab Receives Three-Year Accreditation

The Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis received a three- year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The designation was based on the results of a survey conducted in November of 2006 and cited The MED’s rehab hospital as having excellent performance in ten specific areas and gave accolades to the department’s leadership stability and patient advocacy. The survey report also noted the facility’s daily census growth of 150% during the past 15 months.

The CARF survey summary stated, “Commensurate with the growth of the program and increased census of persons served, the organization established measures to review key quality of care issues that are important to any rehabilitation program, but which are critical when dealing with a population of persons served with complex medical needs.”

The report also acknowledged the facility’s Medical Director, Dr. Tewfik Rizk for his active involvement and the strength of the leadership team and staff.

Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis Administrative Director, Beau Franklin, is happy with the results and is proud of the efforts put forth by the entire staff. “I am extremely happy to be part of an incredibly hard working team. This CARF report and the three-year certification demonstrate the hard work of everyone in rehab services. It not only points out the success of our program, it also notes our dedication to positive outcomes and our mission to serve our community,” she explained.

CARF is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes quality rehabilitation services by establishing standards of quality for organizations to use as guidelines in developing and offering their programs or services to consumers. CARF standards are developed with input from consumers, state and national organizations, and rehabilitation professionals.
